Texting? You’re Probably Using an LG Mobile Phone
LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. (LG Mobile Phones), a global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, announced 13 million LG QWERTY handsets have been shipped since January 2009 in the United States, reflecting LG’s leadership in the messaging category.
LG had consumer trends in mind when anticipating the need for an easier and faster way to text message. LG first entered the QWERTY market in 2005 with the introduction of the LG F9100, one of the first handsets in the US that incorporated a full keyboard that made it easier to utilize messaging features. As the texting phenomenon catapulted, so did LG’s QWERTY handset sales. Over the past three years LG has reported an astonishing 115% CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) in the QWERTY category.
“In a recent study by LG it was found that teens in the US send 1.2 million text messages every day,” said Ehtisham Rabbani, vice president of product strategy and marketing for LG Mobile Phones. “Since the introduction of the QWERTY keyboard, LG has changed the way people communicate allowing for texting to be considered as valuable as talking, if not more.”
Another exciting finding was that the strong sales performance of LG QWERTY phones is largely due to the continued popularity of the LG enV family. Of the 13 million QWERTY handsets shipped, almost 50 percent were of the series. It was no surprise that the LG enV family garnered such large returns. As the handsets are perfect example of phones designed to meet consumer demands. Each new generation of the LG enV family was designed and improved based on customer feedback. The family, established in 2005, includes the LG V, LG enV, LG enV 2, LG enV 3 and LG enV Touch.
