Fujitsu Siemens Computers have announced the latest addition to its LIFEBOOK series at VISIT 2008 on November 12th/13th, 2008 in Augsburg. Thanks to its 12.1-inch display and weighing only 1.3 kilos, the LIFEBOOK P8020 is ultra-compact and is one of the stars in the family. Like its big brothers and sisters, it also is now based on the latest Intel mobility platform. Other technical highlights include unrestricted connectivity thanks to the built-in high-speed 3G/UMTS module, top-quality security equipment such as a fingerprint sensor, SmartCard controller and TPM module, as well as amazing energy efficiency. The latter is due to its ultra-low voltage processor, which has been specially developed for small systems: it uses very little power and is thus the ideal component for high level mobility. At VISIT 2008, the LIFEBOOK P8020 can be seen as a wonder of connectivity and part of a mobility solution. As a result, it is a major component in Infrastructure Products & Services and is a significant part in the “Dynamic Infrastructures” service offered by Fujitsu Siemens Computers. The device is available in the market.

The new LIFEBOOK P8020 is a stylish, high-performance companion in everyday business life. It is ideal either as desktop alternative plus port replicator or – thanks to an integrated optical disk drive – as a fully-fledged mobile workplace. Thanks to state-of-the-art Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology, the computing performance leaves nothing to be desired. High energy efficiency levels – due to built-in energy-saving functions such as the EcoButton – mean that the device can run without a power source for the whole working day.
The elegant piano style makes the LIFEBOOK P8020 look good as well. However, in contrast to its predecessor P8010, it is now all in black with the palm rest matching the rest of the housing instead of being anthracite in color.
Wireless communication is the main requirement within the business environment. With this in mind, Fujitsu Siemens Computers equipped the LIFEBOOK P8020 – and its entire range of notebooks – with WLAN and Bluetooth, as well as including the option of built-in high-speed 3G/UMTS. You can access your data easily anywhere even if there isn’t a hotspot nearby. A camera integrated into the notebook enables you to chat easily through video with your colleagues.
The second main requirement in the business environment is data security. The LIFEBOOK P8020 gains valuable points here as well. A SmartCard controller, the option of a TPM module and an integrated fingerprint sensor turn the notebook into a FortKnox for company data. The stable magnesium cover, the spill-proof keyboard and the ShockSensor reliably protect the hard disk against any physical damage.
Yet another highlight: the four application buttons that ensure the user has access to decisive system settings and applications at the push of a button. The EcoButton switches off unwanted functions in order to save energy and increase battery life when on the move. The MobilityCenter button guides the user directly to the mobile settings, and the LaunchCenter button jumps to the configuration profile. Last but not least, the LockWorkstation button enables you to shutdown the system in a matter of seconds, providing additional security for data and hardware that is essential when travelling.
This range of functions in such a compact form makes the LIFEBOOK P8020 the ideal partner for frequent-traveler business people, such as sales representatives, consultants or media and advertising freelancers, for whom the notebook has the same status as their mobile telephone: indispensable. An optional 64 GB SSD completes the attractive offering.
