Tokyo, August 8, 2008—SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) announces that it has obtained the official approval of the Bac Giang People’s Committee to establish a new optical pickup manufacturing and distribution company in the Bac Giang Province in Vietnam for its optical pickup products, one of the major products in its electric device business. The deal for the land was closed August 6th with local authorities. The construction of the new factory is scheduled to start in September 2008, and is expected to be finished in April 2009.

SANYO, in addition to the current optical pickups production in Japan, China and Indonesia, has decided to commence production in Vietnam with the aim to expand production at ideal and suitable locations on a global scale. With the growth of the developing markets such as China and with the widespread use of next generation DVDs, SANYO will gear up to expand market share in the ever-growing optical pickup business.
